Success in the National Wine Competition – region Moravia – subregion Znojemská 2022
We won 5 gold and 3 silver medals. Our Veltliner Green Premium 2020, Pinot Blanc Premium 2020 and Chordannay Apri 2019 were the highest rated wines in their respective varieties.
The result was decided by 8 committees of wine experts who evaluated 374 entries from 49 winemakers and wineries on 25 August at the Centre of Excellence in Valtice. Of these, 11 won large gold, 94 gold and 15 silver medals. 340 wines advanced to the national round of the Wine Salon – the national wine competition. The nominated wines will compete with those from the Velkopavlovice, Mikulovice and Slovácké wine sub-regions, representing the Morava wine region, and wines nominated from the Bohemia wine region for advancement to the finals and the title of Absolute Champion and a place in the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic, a year-round wine tasting exhibition in Valtice.
Wine exhibition for the public
The wines evaluated in the National Wine Competition of the Znojmo Wine Subregion were presented to those interested on Saturday 3 September from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the area near the Rotunda of St. Catherine in Znojmo, as part of the Znojmo Wine Festival organized by the VOC Znojmo.
The Znojmo wine sub-region owes its full-flavoured and fresh aromatic white wines to the ideal natural and climatic conditions. The cold winds from the nearby highlands, together with the thermoregulatory influence of the rivers, give Znojmo wines their unmistakable spicy flavour. Thanks to the alternation of sunny days and cooler nights, the grapes ripen more slowly, but retain their aromas and achieve high quality. Traditionally, winemakers here have achieved the best results with Veltliner, Riesling, Müller Thurgau and Sauvignon. The reds are particularly popular with St. Laurent and Franconia.
